  • World Heritage National Park Phong Nha - Ke Bang has been and is being invested by the government in general and by Quang Binh province in particular to expand into a population with different types of tourism in order to invite domestic and foreign tourists. Since the 60s of 20th century, the Phong Nha - Ke Bang zone has been regarded as a tourism spot that attracts the most number of tourists among the tourism industry of Quang Binh province. • The Central Highlands in Vietnam are well known for their large basalt plateau and their natural touristic resources with impressive landforms, such as ancient volcanoes, lakes and waterfalls, which are the result of volcanic activities, and of which the waterfalls are especially spectacular scenically. The Dray Nur and Dray Sap waterfalls located on the Serepok River of Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces, respectively, are remarkable landscapes with a significant aesthetic value. Not only are these waterfalls well known as tourist attractions, they are also noted for a system of impressive geological objects, including basalt columns beneath torrential waterfalls, contemporaneous columna...

  • A yunnanolepiform antiarch (placoderm fish) is recorded from the Givetian Dong Tho Formation of Quang Binh Province, central Vietnam. This and other fishes from the same locality occur in marginal marine, detrital facies, with plant remains and lingulid bra-chiopods that indicate a nearshore to deltaic environment. Yunnanolepiform antiarchs were hitherto known exclusively from the Lower Devonian of the South China block. The new occurrence of this group well south of the Song Ma suture suggests close links between the Indochina and South China blocks in Middle Devonian time. The massive sandstone exposures of theDong Tho Formationmay be a southern extension of the Do Son Sandstone Fo...

  • Additional vertebrates and ostracods from the bituminous shale of the Khao Loc Formation at Tong Vai, Ha Giang Province, northern Vietnam, corroborate its correlation with the upper part of the Xishancun (Xiaxishancun) Formation and the lower part of the Xitun and Lianhuashan formations of South China, and its Middle to Late Lochkovian age. The variations in morphology and ornamentation of the galeaspid Polybranchiaspis liaojaoshanensis from Tong Vai are discussed and regarded as possibly size and growth-related. A new acanthothoracid placoderm with a very deep dorsal process is described from Tong Vai and the specific distinction between the antiarchs Minicrania lissa from Tong Vai a...

  • Today, Quang Binh province is focusing its economic development on tourism industry. However, Quang Binh so far has not owned any concrete tourism projection for each region of the province as well as any overall economic projection for the province. Therefore in this article, the group of authors starts out to put forth projections for the province’s economic development based on a panorama of sustainable economic development. The projection’s basis mainly depends on the important tourism resource patterns: world natural heritage, projections for woodlands outside the heritage, projections for an agricultural zone, projections for an industrial urban zone, projections for...

  • New vertebrate remains are described from the terrigenous facies of the Givetian Dong Tho Formation in Quang Binh Province, central Vietnam. They are referred to three placoderm groups, the Antiarchi, Arthrodira and Acanthothoraci, and to a sarcopterygian. The antiarchs are represented by a new form, Vukhuclepis lyhoaensis n.g. n.sp, which is regarded here as closely related to the Yunnanolepididae, an endemic group from the Lower Devonian of the South China Block. Additional material of the phlyctaeniid arthrodire Lyhoalepis duckhoai Tong-Dzuy Thanh, Janvier and Doan Nhât Truong is described. The sarcopterygian is regarded here as a dipnomorph, and may be closely related to the Lower...
