Education based on Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and Independent Professional Competencies (EPAs) are two recognized concepts in health education and have been recent trends in teaching curriculum approaches and development. This study was conducted using qualitative research methods by research papers from databases such as ERIC, Researchgate, Pubmed, BMC, and Medline. The objective of the study is to research the roles and relationships between outcome standards and independent professional competencies in the construction and development of teaching curriculums in various aspects, including outcome identification, structure, content, and instructional activities, as well as assessment and evaluation, serving as a foundation for the development of outcome-based teaching curriculums in the health sector in Vietnam. The research results indicate that developing health-related academic curriculums based on outcome standards is essential and appropriate to enhance the quality of education, ensuring that graduates meet the healthcare demands of the new context. Additionally, clearly defining independent professional competencies makes the development of outcomebased academic curriculums more straightforward in terms of organizing education and assessing students’ competencies.
